Exhibiting & Promoting / A Special Thank You
« on: November 23, 2022, 09:03:23 PM »
Thanks to those who entered birds in the 2022 ABC National Meet. You made the Ameraucana Breed proud with the large number of entries shown. LF Splash came from out of the woodwork from all parts of the country. 43 entries show that Ameraucana breeders do indeed want them as a recognized variety.

It was great seeing familiar faces again (Paul and Angela Smith, Lindsay Helton, Jean Ribbeck, Jerry DeSmidt, Sara Church, and Andrea Drenth). Now for the new faces. Brooklyn Helton (who loves chocolate meltaways as much as her Ameraucanas), Valerie Boese, an ABC member since 2019 and first time showing at an ABC National Meet. Jean Tobiasson who renewed her lapsed membership at the show. Christina Weldon, one of our more recent members from the NC District. She recently moved to a new acreage and has been posting photos on the ABC Forum on progress restoring her chicken house.

Housing, Health & Hatching / Winter Doldrums
« on: January 03, 2022, 08:53:06 AM »
Yes, it seems like 2022 hatching will never get here. Blowing snow, sub zero temps sometimes are the high for the day. Frozen water pipes and chicken waterers are the norm. One can only dream of collecting eggs from what few hens are laying. Dreaming of those days when you can give birds baths and prepping them for a show. Spring seems a long horizen away, but then I stop and think of all those people in Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri and surounding states that were hit with recent devistating tornados. Many of them possibly ABC members. My heartfelt sympathies along with other ABC members go out to them. I guess I don't have it so bad afterall. May those effected repair, regroup and move forward and we hope to see old friends and ABC members at 2022 shows. Keep your chin up as there has to be better days ahead!

Exhibiting & Promoting / 2022 ABC National Meet
« on: November 16, 2021, 03:23:25 PM »
I'm sorry not to get this posted earlier, but have been busy getting set up for our North Central District Meet this weekend. The rotation schedule for next year's ABC National Meet falls to the North Central District. It has been decided to place the meet at the Lancaster Event Center in Lincoln Nebraska on November 19-20 2022. The host club will be the Nebraska State Poultry Assn. This is almost the center of the USA if you don't count in Alaska or Hawaii. Hopefully this will help make shorter travel times from all directions. Start thinking of items (eggs, chicks, gift cards, poultry supplies, etc) that you as members would like to donate for the silent auction.
I have already purchased LF and Bantam show boxes that I will donate. I'm counting on Lindsay to help with compiling a list as she does such a great job of organizing the silent auctions. Remember the proceeds from the 2022 Meet go for the 2023 National Meet in the North East District. Look for more upcoming posts on the ABC Forum.

I have contacted Jackie Roaque of the 7220 Poultry Club which is hosting our 2021 ABC National Meet. Here is her reply on questions that I asked her for information. I hope this will  help with planning on those who are attending the show. Here are my questions with her replies.

Hi Gordon,

Thanks for reaching out! I apologize we have not got back to you sooner.
I am working on the show book right now and hope to have the final copy along with entry forms out by August 8th. I will attempt to answer most of your questions now, but may not be able to answer all as we are still finalizing some plans. This being our very first show we are still trying to tie up some loose ends and finals details, so bear with us!

What are your check in hours for entries? Finalizing our schedule now, but likely 1600 - 2000 Friday evening and 0630-0800 Saturday morning What are the actual hours for your show? 0830-1700  (I see it will be a double show) When can we load out? ~1700 following show Saturday or Sunday morning

When will you have a catalog and entry forms available for your show? August 8th Will they be available as a download on Poultry Show Central?Yes

What health papers and testing is required for out of state entries?  Wyoming Requirements for the importation of Poultry and Hatching Eggs. (a) An ICVI or a National Poultry Improvement Plan Form VS 9-3 is required on all Poultry and Hatching Eggs entering Wyoming. (b) Poultry imported for resale or commercial egg or meat production shall have a negative test result for the following diseases within thirty (30) days prior to import unless from an NPIP clean flock for the respective disease(s): (i) Pullorum – Typhoid; (ii) Avian Influenza; (iii) Mycoplasma gallisepticum; (iv) Mycoplasma synoviae; and (v) Salmonella enteritidis. (c) No poultry or Hatching Egg shall be imported into Wyoming that originates from a Quarantine area or control zone suspected of harboring poultry disease unless permitted by the Wyoming State Veterinarian under a “Secure Food Supply Plan.”

Will food be available at the fairgrounds? We are working on lining up a local 4H club to run concessions. If we are not able to, there are a few fast food options within 5-10 minute drive.

What is your cutoff date for entries? September 4th currently, may change if I can't get the show book out by August 8th or earlier.

Hope this helps!

What a crazy world we live in with dealing with the Coronavirus. Jerry Desmidt informed me last night that the Beaver Dam Pigeon and Bantam Show is at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Beaver Dam, WI not the Jefferson County Fair Park in Jefferson WI. I just talked with Dan Schwandt and confirmed this. At this time the Show is still scheduled to take place on October 10, 2020. Venue was changed because of a 50 person limit at Jefferson due to Coronavirus restrictions. Thanks Jerry for notifying me of the change of venue. This will be our 2020 North Central District Meet for this year!

« on: July 08, 2020, 09:56:22 PM »
I know that this has not been a normal year due to all of the cancelled shows due to the Coronavirus. If it was a typical show year, which option best describes you? The poll is set to run 90 days. One vote per member.
