Title: Is he too hot?
Post by: Guest on September 19, 2009, 12:30:47 AM
My young Splash Ameraucana rooster, Oreo,  has just started to crow. He walks around with his wings up out as if not to touch his main body.  It seems like he is trying to keep cool.  None of my other 40 birds do this.  Is he trying to keep cool or could there be something wrong with him. There is always plenty of fresh water for my birds as I have the birds on a fresh drip system. Oreo  is about 6 months, a beautiful splash purebred bird and has decent size. I purchased him from one of the top Ameraucana farms in the Northwest. I have other birds but would like him to be one of my main breeding birds. Should I worry?

Some of my araucanas and one ameraucana cocks do that too, it is a posture.  Kind of a \"I\'m big, I\'m the baddest, look at me\", I believe.

When a chicken is really overheated, they will also open their mouth and pant.
