This egg has not been altered in any way and is exactly as it was when it popped out of the bird.

Wow! How about a photo of the bird? Never saw one that dark. Any special diet?
-
It\'s the first egg out of a lavender pullet. I am sure the color will lighten considerably.
regular chicken food

Wow! Everyones dream egg
-
I thought it was one of those plastic easter eggs at first.
-
Wow - that is wild! Can\'t wait to see what the rest of her eggs look like!
-
Wow how about keeping us updated on this one
-
Gorgeous!!! I wouldn\'t care if the pullet had a clean face, wry tail, and feathers on her shanks; she would have to be a keeper for me. LOL
-
Like the goose that lays the golden egg - those would probably bring a few grand a piece on BYC...

I\'m sure you are right. It is a novelty, but not a color that would be close to the average blue egg.
The brown modifiers are not only there, but being her first egg it may have been a long time in being developed and laid. That probably contributed to the darkness of the shell, just as brown eggs are darker brown when they travel more slowly thru the oviduct.

I got to see this egg this weekend! WOW!!!! (It IS real!! haa haa haa)
-
Has this pullet produced a second egg yet?

I\'ve got very similar color in my lavender bantams. I couldn\'t believe it. They are really turquoise blue
