Congratulations to Jane Burke. She just won Grand Champion of show at the Dixie Classic in Knoxville. Great job Jan!
-
I guess I should have said with a Black Ameraucana cockerel!
-
Thanks Clif
The birds was bred and raised by Tom Kernan. We showed him under M & J Farm.
-
Congratulations!
-
Congrats! Photo please!
And Clif, how about an update on your condition?
-
Congratulations Jan, on your big win!!!! Beautiful Bird.
-
Thanks everyone. The offical photo was taken yesterday by Neil Grassgaugh. As soon as it is realased to me I will post it. He worked with him to display his excellance.
-
Congratulations Jan and even though Tom is not on the forum...the same to him!
Not to take anything away from Jan, but this is also a huge win for the ABC and all the breeders over the past 36 years that created and improved the Ameraucana breed/varieties to be able to complete and win at this level.
We have arrived and put down stakes.
-
Thanks John
I believe you to be correct in my opinion. The founders of the breed did build the barn and put in all the hard work. I feel that now the barn is just simply being painted. Tom bred the hen that was the clubs National Champion also. I did hear some say they though they were to big. This is not the case. Some of you seen my guy I raised and showed. This boy is the same size or smaller.

Congrats Jan! Ameraucanas have been making a statement here lately. :)

The winning cockerel has a lot of feather, especially a nice, sizable tail. That extra feather may make them appear larger, but feathers don't weigh much. The thing to do to refute such claims is to actually weigh the birds just before the show if you have the opportunity. I will say this cockerel does not look like he came from the same line as the winning bird at Lucasville.
-
Thanks Max and I agree.
Mike
He has a wider tail feather than my other Ameraucanas. I ask Tom how he got it and he said that he culled all birds with out until thats what he had. The wide tail feather is what makes him stand out in my opinion. He weighs 5 lbs 7.8 oz. i would say you coulnt get any closer to the standard weight.

Congrats to you both and to the ABC!
God Bless,

Where is the photo located?
-
This is the photo that the Poultry press took. He really doesn't hold his tail this high. Fell free to post the other photos.
-
he has a really wide head which is hard to tell from the pic.
-
Another thing I noticed from the photo. He does have a really good green sheen.
-
The judge just confirmed this. His tail set is not this high. Its the small photo box.
-
Let's see if this works. The photo that was posted on Facebook. Posted with permission.

Yes his is how he hold his tail.

Took this today

I am certainly no expert on Ameraucanas but I had the privilege of seeing this bird up close in Knoxville. Even as a beginner with Ameraucanas he stood out to me. He is good !! Congratulations !
-
That is one mighty fine looking bird.
-
Congratulations Jan, gorgeous bird :)
-
I heard yesterday the bird was on Champion Row again, but have not gotten the final results yet.
I should say a black cockerel was.... could have been another members bird.
-
Hi he was Reserve Show Champion at a 3000 bird show at the Oklahoma Poultry Federation.
thanks for the kind coments.

Awesome is the word the kids were using, but now I think it is Epic!
-
Yes congratulations Jan. Jan also won RB with a black pullet, great job!

The offical photo
-
That picture looks good but doesn't really do him justice.
-
I agree. He looks much better in person.
-
I agree it is a nice photo. But he is posed with his back too horizontal (see the Standard), his tail a tad too high, and appears to have legs that are too short. The photo does show his outstanding condition. None of this detracts from two outstanding wins - for the bird, the owner, the breeder, and for the Ameraucana breed.
