Title: West Central Ohio Poultry Club March 21 & 22, 2015
Post by: Beth C on January 13, 2015, 02:32:10 PM
I received an e-mail from the West Central Ohio Poultry Club requesting we place a district or state meet at their March 21&22 show. I told him I could place it as a special meet. But state & district meets are usually much later in the year and a March show wouldn't give people much time, since it will only post to the bulletin a few weeks before the show. But I'll put it to the members - does anyone want to call this as the state show?

Hi, this is a show that we are concerning. It will not make any difference to us if it is State or special meet.

Kali, do you want to request this as a special meet, then? It has to be requested by a member, so I can't place it for WCOPC but I can place it for you, if that makes sense.

I second it to be a special meet.

State or special meet
Other than the titles there isn't any differences that I can think of.  There can be one State meet in any state each year and other than a District or National meet all the others are special meets.  "State" sounds a bit more prestigious, but that is about it.  I request the Fowl Fest by a State meet, because that is the only ABC sanctioned meet, in Michigan, each year.  Some clubs have "Club" meets and maybe that is something that could replace State and Special meets someday.

I agree, club meet sounds better than special meet. I think the only real benefit in a "state" meet is getting members talking to each other to decide where the it should be.  ;)

So, is there a pending request for this or its it still under discussion? I don't want to miss getting it listed on the website and in the bulletin.

I am looking forward to this show. Any pointers  on getting birds to not look like they have been through such a harsh winter?

You birds looked pretty good in Ohio. I bring mine in the garage and give them a warm bath. After a nice warm bath I put straw in a pet carrier and bring them in the house till they dry. Works pretty good for me.

How nice, Thanks Clif! I hope a good bath does the trick. We need some sun here in Ohio.

Yeah the winter isn't very good to feathers. I hope you do good at the show.

You can say that again Clif! I just witnessed one of my cockrels with four, three month old pullets under his wings. It was -15 here this a.m. It looked like a giant hen with her new baby peeps. It would have been an award winning photo. And I am sure that is not good on the feathers!
