Working on the black and blue gold in both large and bantam, I am having a heck of a time finding the right shade of gold. I need to spin some straw into gold, obviously!
These three are what I had. The first roo is from a buff crossed to brown red, but he is too orange. The second young cockerel is what Mike calls more of a lemon, which I thought was exactly the color of straw. The blue roo is about the same shade as the light straw gold.

This is a buff roo from John that I started using last fall, but I haven\'t seen any lighter gold yet in the chicks, but they are all turning into pullets, so it\'s harder to tell.
As you can tell by the black gold hen, you don\'t see the reddish orange like you do in the males.

Finally, yesterday I received a golden straw colored cockerel from Mike that is closer to the proper gold coloring.
I put my reddish orange cockerel next to him for a minute to show the contrast. Rumplestitskin has been here!
