The ability to ship poultry to you is being threatened by unwarranted accusations
from animal rights groups AND the inability of the Post Office and their air
carriers to deliver our products in a timely and efficient manner.

On the Bird Shippers of America website ( http://www.birdshippers.org ) is a
summary of the legislation Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) introduced in
the U.S. Senate on Friday, March 10th. The three points Senator Grassley
makes, as well as information regarding avian influenza (Bird Flu), are
extr emely important to the continued success of shipping live poultry
through the U.S. Postal System.

We need your help, and the help of your friends, to make this proposal - law.
For your convenience we have set up a webpage on the Bird Shippers of America website
( http://www.birdshippers.com/takeAction.html ) where you can print a
custom letter to be Mailed or Faxed to each of your Senators.
If you feel strongly about your right to receive birds through the
mail, or your business or hobby would endure severe hardships if
you could not receive birds, please take the time to submit your letter.

All of us in the bird shipping business greatly appreciate your help in
this most important issue.

Thank you.

Murray McMurray, Chairman
Bird Shippers of America

Got my letters printed and will go out in tomorrows mail.
There is just so much government involved in out lives,
In my opinion, there is getting to be too much government ,
the American People, especially, those that are in the rural, farming, ranching, poultry raising, for food, income, and
personal enjoyment are being oppressed.
More time and effort should be put into getting people educated in their responsibility to be responsible for themselves, and not depending on being bottle fed by the government and it\'s agencies.
My opinion....if this is too political, sorry.....John, Suz...can
remove it....
Thanks, phil

Perhaps I am in the minority, but I had absolutely no problems shipping birds anywhere last year or this, as Ron can attest. It may be due to the fact that I drive up to the Cincinnati airport (a 97 mile round trip), but all my birds went out easily and arrived at their destinations in one day.

Personally, I think the question of shipping will be a moot point if the NAIS goes through as it is written, as I feel it will cause breeding exhibition fowl to become so expensive that most folks won\'t have the resources to continue. So at present, I\'m focusing on fighting the NAIS, rather than worrying about shipping. But that\'s just me...

Laura,
You are very fortunate.  Although I have been able to ship birds, it takes at least two days, no matter where they are going.  Even if it is only a one day trip.  Last time, my customer had to pick the bird up at the airport, or it would not have been delivered until day three.  It really is ridiculous.
I\'m with you on the NAIS however.  If we don\'t nip it in the bud, shipping problems will be irrelevant.

I have never had better than two day service using express mail and that goes back about 15 years or so.   Many times it took until  the third or fourth day.    In all those years there was only one bird lost, and he was a large rooster in a too-small box.   I try to put some moist fruit or cucumber in the boxes to provide some sustenance enroute.   Here is another way to look at it.   Is your glass half empty or half full?

It simply is, what it is.
Being able to ship a bird is a wonderful thing, but......I don\'t like being forced to pay Express rates, plus a dollar a pound surcharge for live birds, and then being give Priority service.  I wouldn\'t do it to my customer....I believe that you should get what you pay for.

Just my thoughts

I assume FexEx will handle the above and the regular commercial airlines will continue handling the Live shipments as they have over the past few years.
It sounds like some progress.
