Stockton Show 1/30/2010
« on: January 31, 2010, 04:23:03 PM »
There were a lot more birds shown as Ameraucanas this year than last year.  I met more folks and sold fewer birds.  Fair trade-off.  _^

Best of Breed Large Fowl was a blue pullet owned by Robin Taber.
Reserve Best of Breed Large Fowl was a white cockerel owned by Bridget Riddle.

Best Black was a cockerel owned by junior, Joel Smith
Best Silver was pullet owned by Robin Taber
Best Brown Red was a hen owned by Lyne Peterson
Best Black Gold was a cock owned by Lyne Peterson
Best Birchen was a pullet owned by Debra Hogan.  She entered a lot of big birds with willow legs that would only be correctly called Easter Eggers.  I didn\'t take photos of the rest of them.

The large fowl were judged by Art Weaver from Iowa.

Best Wheaten large fowl was a pullet owned by junior, Clara Carstensen
Again, it looks like willow legs.

All in all, it was a nice showing and it was good to compare how we are doing.  The general size in the large fowl was BIG.  I\'m going to start weighing birds.  I think we may in danger of going over standard.

Thank you Lyne for taking those pics.  I was not able to attend the show. :(

I\'ll ask more questions next year about the judge when deciding to place the next meet there........

Anyway, may I use your photos on BYC?  We have an ameraucana thread there and I would love to post some of the winners there too.

Thanks,
Jean

Most certainly you can use the photos.

I have no complaints about any particular judge.  I actually liked the fellow.  I think it is educational to see how much the judges still don\'t know.  I should have had handouts.  I should have had a sign for the breed section to say it was a District Meet or whatever it was called.  I should have had my birds banded before the show... then I might not have caught the wrong hen in the dark.  ^_^

I decided to take my black gold roo because he\'s so confident and pretty.  He showed well and ate well, and clucked to neighbor hens to share his treats.  BUT, when he came home he beat the living daylights out of #2 who thought he had gone to heaven in #1\'s absence.  Gotta be more careful about that.

Thanks for the report Lyne.    It\'s always nice to have a lot of competition.   It is discouraging to know there are still judges out there placing birds with willow legs.   The \"wheaten\" that won in the juniors is not even wheaten;  it appears to be a cross between wheaten and wild type (black breasted red).
The judge from Iowa must be Art Reiber, as I don\'t know of any Iowa judges by the name of Weaver.   He should know better.

Yes, I probably heard the name wrong.  I must say he did not place any willow legs over slate legs.  He DQed a single comb splash, and DQed some squirrel tails, but left the willow legs in.  Perhaps it was because there were so many of them, he didn\'t want to DQ them all - maybe a dozen.  The owner of most of them thought they were supposed to be willow - maybe she got confused with Aracauna.  She\'s owns a feed store.  She knows now, if she believed me.

I don\'t know which judge placed the bantams.  They had several judges working that area and I missed it.  Maybe it was a poor photo of the wheaten.  I don\'t know wheaten at all.  This junior won BB last year with a wheaten, also.

Oh, for goodness sakes.  It was brought to my attention that Mike was referring to the LF wheaten.  I was thinking the junior with the BANTAM wheaten.  Yes, it appears that someone is selling some BIG Easter Eggers that are a mix of colors (and having willow legs). There was even a couple that looked like the red pyle someone is working on.  A couple of hens laid an egg, and they were blue, not green.  Interesting.

The Bantam judge was Mark Beasley (information provided by someone who cannot post).

....not mine, just FYI.  I wouldn\'t dream of getting anywhere near a show with mine at this point, lol!

Great pics by the way!  Thanks so much for the report.
