Is this split wing?
« on: May 01, 2011, 07:21:53 PM »
These are pics from a couple of years back, but I have always wondered, is this what split wing looks like in chicks?  They are between one and two weeks here I think.  The first pic is how the wing hangs on the bird.  The other\'s I have spread out.

Better to wait until they get all their adult wing feathers before judging whether or not they have split wing.

Didn\'t know that.  Does it look the same in adults?

Similar to the black chick, but not the white one.  In adult birds the wing does not usually droop, so you need to spread the wing to discover it.    With split wing there will be a feather or two missing between the primaries and secondaries, including the axial feather.
