THE only explanation would be if you had a bird that appeared black, but was actually a dark blue as Lyne said. I have had that in some birds. It might also be, that most of the eggs were out of your blue hen.

Here is a pic of the chick the first is of a week old and the other is a 2 day old. the feathers are coming in a smoky gray color.

bantamhill:
Do you know if all of the hens are laying? I suspect that the blue hen is laying the most and you have just been lucky to get a lot of blue chicks. Over time your percentages will move toward 50% blue and 50% black out of the blue hen. Enjoy the plethora of blue offspring! You will see folks concerned that they are not getting 50% in a month or so!
