My first breeding decision for type instead of color...

It is so easy to choose color...for me anyway.  I am getting rid of 7 cockerels.  I have been planning to keep a blue one just cuz I like blue.  I kept noticing a splash bird but had already decided to get rid of all my splash birds.  Then it dawned on me that the reason I kept getting drawn back to the splash bird is because he is better looking.  Fuller hackles and better comb.  Light years behind anything really good of course but the best cockerel I have in my pens so far.  

Baby steps for me...but steps anyway.

Find a good Black hen and breed her to your Splash cockerell and you will have all the blue chicks you want!!!!

Ya!  Now I just need nice black hens.  lol
I do have 3 black pullets that are of similar quality as the splash cockerel I kept.  
I hope to have blacks from John Blehm this spring.  
At least I have birds to practice with until I get better quality.  :rolleyes:
