Anyone have info/advice on current shipping costs, shipping boxes and best prices, how many LF will fit in a box etc?

Don, here is a comparison chart: http://www.hm-e.net/Bird%20NEST%20comparison%20chart_2012.htm You might want to check http://bellefarm.net/ They were set up at Forsyth last spring and are based out of Morganton area. Don't know if you ever get up that way, but if you do it might be worth it to save shipping the boxes. Because they are shipped flat, making them over-sized, it's expensive to order just a few. Do you think John M. carries any in his store?

Don,

You can find shipping rates at www.postcalc.usps.com/

Everything is based on weight and started and adult birds must be shipped express mail.   All USPS approved boxes are within a certain size range so that there are no additional fees.

You can get multiple and single boxes from http://poultry2.tripod.com/id3.html also.

I would recommend only shipping one adult LF bird per single stall box.  You can tape up to three single stall boxes together without going over the size limitation.  But if you do that make sure they are taped well and are solid.  Put the phone number of the receiver on each box.

There are a couple areas back east that do not ship lives, so make sure your post office can accept them.

Thanks Beth and Jean for the info.   This gives us a great start.

John's store is a specialty store selling farm fresh foods, Consumer Supported Agriculture subscriptions, for city folks.

So you ship a LF in the single box 20 x 8 x 16?

Yes, John Marshall lives about an hour North of me near my home town of Winston-Salem.  We try to get up that way every month or so and he only lives about a mile off our travel route.  Right in the middle of Lexington Barbeque country, carnivour's heaven.

Thanks Don.  I know it is getting off topic.  I've corresponded with John & Sue, but don't think we've ever met in person.  I had hoped to see them at our national meet in KY and few years ago, but they couldn't make it.

Don: Ah, I was thinking he had a farm supply store. I didn't realize you were only an hour apart. I have a couple friends that routinely travel to Winston-Salem, and Robert Burns is in between John & I, so we should be able to network.

John: Don introduced me to John Marshall at Forsyth last spring - very nice fellow! His store makes it hard for him to travel, but hope you get to meet him some time.

Speaking of John M., he mentioned a while back that he still wants some more brown-reds whenever Mike or anyone else has some to spare.
