The South-Central District Meet was held Saturday Oct. 18 at Sedalia, MO. hosted by the Southern Missouri Poultry Club. The entire show was down several hundred head from what they have been running in the past. Weather conditions unfavorable for chickens were the biggest culprit causing lots of birds to be in molt.
There were 17 Ameraucana bantams shown in the open show by Michael Muenks and Chris and Pam Link. Michael\'s birds won every class. His blue hen won BB (best of breed) and Res. AOCCL (All Other Comb Clean Legged). Michael\'s blue wheaten cock won RB (Reserve Breed). Thanks Michael for bringing an outstanding set of Ameraucana bantams and large fowl.
There were 21 head of large fowl Ameraucanas shown by three exhibitors. Michael Muenks had the best black gold, wheaten, silver and buff. Angela and I had the best blue wheaten and blue. There were 9 blacks shown by all three exhibitors. Congratulations to Pam Hamilton on her winning black hen. She won BB, Reserve AOSB (All other standard breed), and champion Ameraucana. Angela and I had the reserve black on a cock which was RB and reserve Ameraucana. t\'s great to have new fanciers coming into Ameraucanas and show quality birds! Pam recently joined the ABC. She has a good start of blacks with this hen and a shipment of black chicks from us this past spring.
Jr. Daniel Garrn showed 2 young blue LF cockerels. The best on won champion AOSB and the other one won Res. AOSB. Jr. Nathan Schwartz showed a good pair of bantam wheatens. Nathan\'s hen won Res. AOCCL and Jr. champion Ameruacana.
The SMPC had an egg contest which Angela and I showed a dozen of our Ameraucana eggs which won second against several dozen brown eggs no white eggs were shown. The show was judged by Danny Williamson and Forest Beauford. It was completed by 4:30 and we were on our long journey home. I\'ll sure miss seeing everyone at the national meet, but won\'t miss the trip. We drove 1,036 miles round trip to the South-Central meet but it would be nearly twice that for a round trip to Hutchinson. I may suffer National meet withdrawl for a whole year! LOL!! Hope all have a good time at the show!
