The Ft. Worth Open Poultry show was held in conjunction with the Ft. Worth Stock show and rodeo on Jan. 23 and 24. The open show was judged by Paul Monteith from Ontario, Canada. We had another great showing of Ameraucanas with a total of 77 large fowl and 7 white bantams shown by Ernie Haire. Ernie’s hen won BV and BB and one of his pullets won RV and RB. They were judged by Tracy Hill of Texas, as Paul Kroll was snowed in, in New York. The largest class was blues with 26 head. Max Strawn won BV and RB on a hen and RV on a cockerel. There were 23 blacks with Max taking the top two spots. His cock won BV, BB and Res. AOSB and his cockerel won RV. Twenty-one whites were shown. Ernie Haire had BV on a hen and RV on a cockerel. Three lavenders were shown in the self blue class. Steve Jones, well known judge and one of the superintendents changed the name on the show cards to self blue, as that is the only name that the APA and ABA are going to accept. The two poultry associations are tired of the confusion and the use of the incorrect name lavender. Just as a breed is not a breed, until they say it is-also applies for a variety. Bobby Meeks Jr. had BV on a pullet and RV on a cock. Two splash were shown. BV was a cockerel by Mary Laska and Paul & Angela had RV on a pullet. Two EEL were also shown.
This was the first year that the Jr. show was held separate from the open show. It was the weekend prior to the open. I tried to access the records but was denied. Hopefully show management will fill out the Jr. show report, which I sent with our entries and a note that I wouldn’t be there to get the Jr. show results due to the change. 2017 is scheduling the open show first and the Jr. poultry show later in conjunction with the Jr. hog, sheep and cattle shows.
Photos will be posted ASAP and hopefully the Jr. show results.
