Exhibiting & Promoting / Rocky Mtn Poultry Assn, Hamilton MT
« on: March 04, 2012, 06:25:15 PM »
I am going to a show in Hamilton, Montana the first weekend of May.  This is their 7th annual show and they always have lots of chicks and giveaways for the 4-H kids and people new to poultry.  I bring eggs, chicks and goslings and donate a portion of my sales to the Club.  I am not a member of this Club, but the people are great and I haven\'t missed a year since I met these people in Great Falls, at the Ameraucana Nationals in 2007.

Anyway, I am soliciting donations.  I have donated proceeds and some of my stock for the past four years and was interested in perhaps getting some bantams or another breeders line to offer here.

Duane Urch is a yearly sponsor of this club and I want to send out a big Thank You to him!

Thanks,

Breeding / WTH Happened here???
« on: January 15, 2012, 09:25:34 PM »
This is a bird from some hatching eggs I sold a lady this past summer.  And no, there were no birds jumping from pen to pen.

Is there some diluting gene at work here?

Breeding / Black Bantams
« on: September 10, 2011, 06:50:20 PM »
So, I was out sitting with my black bantam babies this afternoon and was wondering what others are looking at when deciding who to cull.

Maybe you could give me some tips on stuff that is not so obvious.

I have noticed the eyes are pretty dark on most of them.  Is this a general concern or something in my stock?

I was also looking at wing placement, but decided it probably wasn\'t a good idea to decide right now since it is over 90 degrees outside at the moment.....

Housing, Health & Hatching / Travel Boxes??
« on: September 10, 2011, 12:15:20 PM »
Does anyone have any directions/measurements for making travel boxes.

My husband wants to get these done so we can attach them to the trailer and be ready to go.

If you have a link to any sites that would be appreciated too.  I am looking for LF and bantam boxes.

If anyone in the PNW plans on going to the show, I have room for two more people and lots of birds.

Ameraucana Marketplace / Wanted Silver Cock/cockerel
« on: June 21, 2011, 09:51:29 PM »
I am in need of a healthy, good quality silver cock/cockerel.  Preferably of good size to continue with my silver improvement project.

It seems the bird I purchased last year is carrying the recessive yellow skin gene.

I am only interested in certain lines so I don\'t have this problem again.  Please send me an e-mail if you have one available.

Thanks,

Ameraucana Marketplace / FILING GRIEVANCE WITH ABA
« on: March 10, 2011, 11:33:16 AM »
I am taking this opportunity to inform the members of our Club that I will be filing a formal grievance with the ABA regarding an e-mail Matt Lhamon sent to an ABA member here in Washington.  She had requested grievance information from the Secretary of the ABA, Karen Unrath.

Mr. Lhamon replied to the inquirer, saying that the Ameraucana Lavender breeders were \"nut jobs\".  He assumed the person that was inquiring about the information was me.  I for one am tired of the name calling.  No Officer of any of the Clubs in our fancy should be resorting to such innappropriate conduct.

If you are a member of the ABA and find this insulting, I would suggest that you also file a grievance regarding this statement.  I for one am tired of the bullying and the lack of respect.

Below is a copy of what was said by Mr. Lhamon.  If you would like to have the original forwarded please contact me.  The grievance must be postmarked by March 17, 2011 and sent to the Secretary of the ABA.  I would also suggest using registered mail.

I am sure she is talking about me as I called her Lavander Americauna group a bunch of “nutjobs” which they are. Fire me , please!

Ameraucana Marketplace / Bantam Leg Bands
« on: March 06, 2011, 05:06:47 PM »
Does anyone have any bantam leg bands they could sell me?

I would like to get around 10 of them, I am going to a show and just need to get a start.  These are for grown birds, so the ABA bands won\'t work.

Thanks,

Exhibiting & Promoting / Club Points
« on: March 01, 2011, 08:24:58 PM »
Some other clubs give their members points at shows and currently we do not.  I have some examples of how other clubs do it and would like some more input on the subject.

To me it gives the term show quality a whole new meaning if the breeder does in fact show.

I am sure there are other members that have some good ideas too.

I would like to be perfectly clear on one thing; I do not think this is a job we should add to our Secretary/Treasurer Position.  We have already combined it into one and Michael does a heck of job......

I\'ve got to run to a meeting, but will be back later.

Ameraucana Marketplace / My first hatch
« on: February 03, 2011, 10:24:55 AM »
My first hatch is popping out right now.

The gals weren\'t too cooperative in my regular pens, so I set a bunch of silver/split eggs.  One from the pen with a silver cock bird over silver/split pullets and one from a pen with a silver/split cock bird over silver hens.

Most of the chicks have the silver chick down.  I would say around 70% of them.  Some of them are black; I am going to presume that they are males.  That is how it turned out last time I hatched.

I also have my first batch of bantam eggs just about ready to hatch.  I\'m so excited about them.

It\'s time to start collecting from the rest of the pens so hopefully I have something to take to Indy....

Ameraucana Marketplace / Lavender
« on: January 27, 2011, 01:19:00 PM »
Some of you have asked about getting the lavender birds admitted to the standard; so I thought I would start a thread to discuss it.

I do not know if we have enough consistency in the birds to show them at a qualifying meet or if we have five breeders who have bred them for five years now. (for both bantam and large fowl)

The obvious delay is the naming of the variety.  There are some out there that are against the name we have chosen.  It has gone so far as to name calling on a public forum by a person who is supposed to be one of the leaders of the ABA.

We will have to make headway with the Standards Committee with both the APA and ABA before we can begin the process.  One way I have thought about making some progress with them is to perhaps have a slight compromise on the variety name.

I wonder if we could offer our variety to be lavender/self blue or self blue/lavender.  This way the lavender term is still there and the self blue is still there.  We could still call our birds just lavender, no need to include the rest.

Or, we can wait to get the birds accepted; I see no rush.  We will continue to breed our lavender variety for a bit longer.

In the meantime I encourage everyone to join the APA or ABA and vote to implement change within the ranks by removing closed minded individuals.

Any and all thoughts would be appreciated.

Ameraucana Marketplace / New Western District Director
« on: January 09, 2011, 09:55:10 PM »
Since it would not be beneficial to the Club for me to hold two positions, I have appointed Jeanine McKee from Oregon as the new Western District Director.

Please give her a warm welcome!
