Ameraucana Marketplace / SOP - Blue Wheaten
« on: November 23, 2010, 09:00:21 PM »
Since I do not have an APA SOP (been waiting for the new one) can someone look through it and confirm that the ameraucana is the only bird that has the blue wheaten color approved.

Thanks,

Ameraucana Marketplace / Crossroads at Indy
« on: November 02, 2010, 10:18:08 PM »
I just checked the website and it says we have not asked for a meet at Indy.

Have we done this?  The sooner we get it done, the better the choice we have in the judges.

I am looking for a nice trio of black bantams for a breeding project.  They cannot be oversized, but undersized is fine.

Thanks,

Here is a 6 1/2 month old cockerel by a Pips n Peeps cock and a John Blehm hen, whatcha think?:

I\'m really impressed, the legs are a bit light, but the red is a better more even color than I have been able to get so far.  And, his beard is getting nice and black.

But alas, still more work to be done......

Well, I brought the darn basket home again.......

This time my wheaten cock won Best AOSB and Champion Ameraucana.  My white cock won Reserve AOSB.

I also had an old sebastopol goose take Reserve Champion Goose.

In the second show my white cock won Reserve AOSB.

And, Grace won Reserve Champion Waterfowl with a young sebastopol goose in the open show, not junior.

I hatched my second generation on my silver project last week.  I have two out of five chicks that hatched with the correct chipmunk pattern!

Hopefully I\'ll get some better type and some size out of these babies......

Ameraucana Marketplace / Non Member looking for birds
« on: July 11, 2010, 08:39:11 PM »
I was contacted by a person on another forum that is looking for bantam birds.

Ok I\'ve been bothering everyone with this and I either get ignored or told to check the ABC breeders directory. I\'m looking for Buff Bantams for sale and Bantam Wheaten and Blue Wheatens for sale. I\'ve found that Faith Valley Waterfowl will have some but only buff cockerels and Mike Gilbert will have some buff cockerels for sale. I\'m looking for started or adult stock, and I understand that it is too hot to ship, but I need to know who to contact as soon as it is possible to ship so I get the best the breeders have to offer to me. I\'ll also be going to the Ameraucana National Show in October. But what I\'m asking you is do you have any idea who else I can get a hold of?

Please contact me if you have anything for sale and I will relay it.

Thank you,

Ameraucana Marketplace / NEW AUCTION SITE
« on: June 11, 2010, 12:53:45 PM »
Since eggbid has gone the way of the dodo bird (extinction), there have been several new auction sites popping up.

I am going to be using www.bidbirdauctions.com.  It is owned and run by Jesse Paul and will be maticulously monitored.

It is set up very similar to eggbid, so will be easy to maneuver for all those who have used the aforementioned site.

Hope to see you there!

Ameraucana Marketplace / Wanted - Silver Cock Bird
« on: April 29, 2010, 12:57:45 PM »
Well, my silver male up and croaked yesterday; and I didn\'t have a back up. :(

I am working on improving them, so I have some silver-black cockerels, but still need a pure silver cock to put over the F1 pullets.

Thanks,

Ameraucana Marketplace / LF Buff Genetic Heritage
« on: January 28, 2010, 12:24:20 PM »
I was wondering if one of the developers of the LF Buff could tell me which breeds were used to develop them.

I\'m pretty sure I see orpington there...... but what else was used?

I am trying to do some calculations for an outcross and the calculator keeps giving me a buff columbian bird.  How is the black in the tail restricted in our birds?  White?

Any info would be appreciated.  Remember I am a dabbler at genetics so you\'ll have to \"S P E L L\" it out for me. :)

Thanks!!!

Ameraucana Marketplace / Wanted at Ohio

I am looking to get a nice quality white variety cockerel/cock while at the show.  He would have to be shipped to my home though.  Must be NPIP.

My current white flock carries the slow feathering gene and has two copies of the barred gene which is causing some problems with light eyes and lack of pigment in the legs.

Please contact me if you have a bird that would fit my needs.

I am also interested in buff pullets/hens.

Ameraucana Marketplace / Eggs aren\'t developing
« on: June 29, 2009, 08:24:58 PM »
I have been trying to start my \"silver size improvement\" project for the past 3-4 weeks, but my eggs are not developing.

At first I thought my cock bird was infertile, because there was no development whatsoever.  But then I cracked a couple of fresh eggs open and found the \"bullseye\".  So my little guy didn\'t get culled.

I have since put more eggs in the incubator and they are not developing at all.  I pulled a couple out today and cracked them and I could see they were fertilized.

So, what could be the problem?  These birds are so not related and the rooster appears to be doing his job.  All the birds are on vitamin water, what\'s going on???

Thanks,

Ameraucana Marketplace / Bruised Hocks - Chicks
« on: March 18, 2009, 12:31:52 PM »
I was talking to one of my chicken buddies yesterday and she had mentioned she got some chicks shipped and they had what appeared to be bruising on their hocks.

Anyway, I remember reading an article or other informative material about this type of thing.

Can anyone point me in the right direction about this issue?

Thanks,

Jean

Ameraucana Marketplace / Look What I Made!
« on: February 27, 2009, 09:10:46 PM »
I just wanted to post a photo of a cockerel I bred.  I am very proud of myself.

He\'s not perfect and has other issues, but check out those hackles.....

I have another one available to me that has no red in the breast and is heavier.

Well, I cannot get the photo to reduce, so here is a link:
