Ameraucana Marketplace / Arrggg --- Ruptured Achilles Tendon
« on: July 02, 2007, 09:32:33 PM »
I have chronic achilles tendonitis (much less traumatic than a ruptured one!) but I suffered for quite a while until a physical therapist told me to elevate my heels.  You know, like high heels... sorta ^_^.  Anyway, that relieved the pressure on my tendon and I was able to do everything as if nothing was wrong.  Ask your doctor about raising your heels.  You never know - it might get you back in action a little sooner!  Sending healing thoughts.

Ameraucana Marketplace / Lavenders in the UK.

Has any of you lavender developers thought of importing some from the UK?  I saw this listing on eBay for hatching eggs.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120103962042&ssPageName=MERCOSI_VI_ROSI_PR4_PCN_BIX&refitem=160101905857&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=closed_view_item&refwidgettype=osi_widget

If the link is too long, you can search.  The fellow spelled it    \"6 Lavender Aruacana hatching eggs\"

It looks like they have a bit of a topknot besides muffs and beards and they don\'t seem to care about leg color.

Ameraucana Marketplace / AOV?
« on: January 29, 2007, 09:28:44 PM »
I\'ve been thinking... what if we had an AOV category?

First of all, it would give all those enthusiastic new variety promoters somewhere to go with their \"product\".  Many potential varieties that fail might still gain an Ameraucana enthusiast and breeder.

I\'m thinking we might encompass the Easter Egger popularity and perhaps concentrate on encouraging \"breeding them up\", as many of us have done.  Essentially we would be less discouraging and disparaging and perhaps benefit from the popularity.  How many of us have owned them?

Anyway, it would officially give judges and breeders somewhere to \"put\" the well loved Easter Eggers.  I can envision a new reply, \"Yes, it seems to be an Ameraucana but from a farm flock or production line.\"  \"You could buy a SQ rooster from me and upgrade your flock.\"

Hmmm?

That\'s ALMOST close enough for me!  I\'m having trouble finding information about the show.  Is there shipping in for exhibition?

Ameraucana Marketplace / Mike G.: prayers and good thoughts
« on: November 24, 2006, 11:32:40 AM »
Good news!  So, Mike, when you feel better (or they give you better pain meds than tylenol) google Kombucha tea.  Some folks have had very good luck brewing and drinking this fermented tea.  It tastes like apple cider.  It is full of probiotics and acts like a tonic or de-toxifier.  I drink it and also feed it to my horses.

You know, I had an young great horned owl that ate like that.  He also often ate the breast only.  One morning he was sitting on the roost with the other chickens.  He was rehomed.  ^_^

Ameraucana Marketplace / black gold off colors?
« on: November 23, 2006, 11:21:36 AM »
OK, I was told to select the most solid buff colored F1 offspring.  I\'m wondering why I wouldn\'t save some laced ones if I was crossing to buff to get that lacing.

I also wonder if some of my buffs are too \"red\".

Then my blue LF crosses gave me a blue cockerel that is orange instead of yellow.  I never got an orange in my bantams!  Is this a bad color?

Ameraucana Marketplace / Buffs in my black gold flock

I have to assume it came from the buff rooster I got from Jay.  I never had it before.  The hens were black gold.  It must be a smokey buff, I guess.

Does the smokey cover brown red the same way or can you still see the faded colors?  But the buff rooster was vividly colored - not faded.  I could keep them a year and see if they produce the same color in their chicks.

The color is fun.  The chicks are unusual - like chocolate milk.

One more question... when selecting for good solid color in the buff offspring, I am assuming that the first generation should be solid buff - not be showing the black gold characteristics... I shouldn\'t see blue or red until the next cross back to black gold (or each other)?  Then I would start selecting for black (or blue) gold?

Ameraucana Marketplace / Buffs in my black gold flock

I crossed the buff large fowl rooster with the bantam black gold hens to try another pathway to get black gold large fowl.  Everything looks buff (bantam and large fowl) so I will have to see what the next generation brings.

Very interesting that I might have a splash blue gold.  The two blues weren\'t together very long.

I have a wide range of buff coloring, but I don\'t know exactly what making sure they aren\'t red means.   Part of one of the darker buffs is in one of the photos.  Is that dark buff still buff and not red?

I meant \"cream in your coffee\" by saying cafe aulait.  I have three or four of these smoky critters.  How close is it to lavender?

I bred my black gold bantam hens (and brown red large fowl hen) to a large buff rooster.  I don\'t know what offspring to keep.  I got a few dark legs, so I can cull the lighter legs and chicks without muffs and beards, but I have some variation in the buff color, too.  Do I look for lacing in the buffs?  I also have a creamy buff.  This creamy buff was my cafe aulait chick with chocolatey legs.

That\'s just crazy!  I\'ve had white chicks of other breeds and they were never chocolatey.  I assume those cute chocolate legs will turn slate.  I rather liked those choclate legs (sigh).

Another question.  In this same clutch I have VERY dark legs.  How do you know if slate has gone too dark and is really black?

Here is the buff rooster.  It\'s HOT here.  He wasn\'t panting until I looked at him and pointed the camera at him, though.

How \'bout this milk chocolate chick?

I bought a buff cockerel from Jay (did I remember his name right?) to put over my black gold hens.  He just worked himself out of a job.  I have more than enough offspring to take over the world.  I\'m noting that I got a lot of solid buff chicks, about half without slate legs.  The buff rooster has only a tint of slate to his legs.  If anyone would like him, they can have him for the cost of shipping.  I\'ll try to attach his photo somewhere.  I can attach it to an email if interested.  lyne@bryngyld.com

Also, interestingly, one of the chicks is light chocolate.  Anyone have something like this.  The legs look chocolate too.  Interesting color.  It might be good in developing the lavenders (maybe).

Ameraucana Marketplace / black gold - too much gold?
« on: April 21, 2006, 01:32:16 AM »
These are bantams.  Here is another photo of cockerel #1 (I got confused with my numbers in the last message) with a small piece of his breast showing.  There is too much gold, I think.  Shouldn\'t his muffs and beard be black also?  The original sire\'s are black.
