I\'m considering offering a limited number of day old chicks this year.  I noticed that the boxes on Horizon website are different. Do chick shipping boxes have to have filters now? Where is the best place to buy the boxes now?

No filters are needed for day-old chick boxes.  I generally buy mine (and the pads) from Cutler\'s.

Eggcartons.com also sells chick boxes, but I have not compared prices.   I believe they only offer the 50 chick size.

I don\'t know about the shipping charges, but Cutler\'s sells 10 boxes and pads for $18.85, which is less than $2 each.  If you buy 100 at a time they are only $1.60 each (box & pad), plus shipping.
FYI,
I have 200 of the 50 count boxes and 160 25 count boxes coming (with pads) from a place in WI that used to sell game chicks.  If any club members need a few boxes w/pads I can sell these for $2.75 each for the 25 count boxes and $4.50 for the 50 count boxes. plus shipping.  If you are looking for 10 or more at a time I still recommend Cutler\'s Supply.

Oh, if you want to save on postage let me know before Indy how many boxes/pads you want and I can bring them.

I wanted to add that I sell some shipping boxes too.

I\'m pretty reasonable compared to the big companies, but if you only need one box the postage is much cheaper.

I usually have single stalls and chick boxes.  Sometimes I have economy and omnis.

Jean,

I\'d be interested in your single stall boxe prices.  I am looking to buy 15 to 20.  I used to get 20 for $100, shipped from a guy off the old egg bid, sure wish I could find him!

FYI,
I just called Cutler\'s and talked to Karen to get a price for a gal in TX.  The price is just $33.85 for 10 of the 25 count boxes and 10 pads shipped from Michigan to Texas.  That is hard to beat.

Yes.  I posted earlier that without shipping it is $18.85.
Of course those of us in MI have to also pay sales tax.

I bought some from him too a while back. I\'m not positive, but I think that was Matthews Oak Ridge Farm (the poultry2.tripod link someone posted).

The last time I bought adult shipping boxes I got 50 for $277.50 with free shipping.  That comes out to only $5.55 per box for Horizon\'s 18\" x 18\" x 8\" original single stall shipper.  I charge customers $10 per box when I ship.

Often times I tape two together to ship a pair of LF or a trio/quad of bantams.

I believe that is the person who sold on eggbid.  They are under melonsandmore(???)  You can find them on most of the new auction sites.

I would imagine they would be cheaper for you to get the boxes from in that quantity.  They are closer to you and the postage goes up by weight and by zone.

Beth and Jean,

Yes, it was the mellons and more guy, he had the best prices I had ever seen.  Fast shipper too, I have not seen him on any other sites.   :(
