We recently completed the most productive SC District Ameraucana meet that has been held since I have been involved with Ameraucanas (1999)! We had 10 exhibitors from 4 states show 65 head of LF in the open class, one exhibitor showed 5 open bantams, one Jr. exhibitor showed 9 Jr. bantams, and 2 Jr. exhibitors showed 9 LF, for a total of 88 head by 13 exhibitors from 4 states.
The open large fowl were judged by Diana Dahir. There were 37 head of blacks shown by 8 exhibitors. The best variety, best of breed, best AOSB, Champion LF and reserve over all show champion (over 3,000 head entered) was the cockerel shown by M & J Farm (Mike Geis & Jan Geis). Congratulations to Mike and Jan on their outstanding cockerel! Also on their recent marriage! This is the second year in a row that a black Ameraucana cockerel has won the Champion LF and on to win higher honors in the over all awards in Shawnee at the Oklahoma State Poultry Federation Show. The RV black was a pullet also owned by M & J Farm. She was selected the RB.
The blue class had 15 head shown by 4 exhibitors. Max Strawn had the BV and RV on two pullets.
The blue wheaten class also had 4 head shown by 2 exhibitors. Peggy Taylor had the BV and RV on two pullets.
Max Strawn showed the only Lavenders, two pullets which received the BV and RV.
Jeffery & Cheryl Vance showed the only splash, a pair which won BV on their pullet and RV on their cockerel.
The wheaten class had 5 head shown by 2 exhibitors. Paul & Angela Smith won BV on a pullet and RV on a cockerel.
The open bantams were judged by either Jim Sallee or Anthony Ashley. Five very nice bantam Ameraucanas were shown by Gus Malcolm. Gus’s blue, splash, white and wheaten pullets won BV. His wheaten cockerel won RV. Best of breed was his wheaten pullet and Res. Breed was his white pullet. It was great to have bantam Ameraucanas this year at our district meet! Gus also showed and outstanding black LF cockerel in the open show which won second place in the impressive class! He was one of my top picks of the class for potential class winner before the judging began!
Gus’s older brother Walter Malcolm showed 9 bantams in the Jr. show. Jacob Bates judged the Jr. bantams. Walter’s white, silver, and buff pullets won BV. His blue cockerel won BV and one of his blue pullets won RV. His blue cockerel won BB and his buff pullet won RB.
The Jr. LF class had 9 head shown by two juniors and judged by Richard Peters. There were two blacks shown. Walter Malcolm had BV, BB and best AOSB on a very nice pullet. Matthew Smith had RV on a black cockerel. The remaining seven head were shown by Matthew. Matthew’s blue wheaten, lavender, and blue pullets won BV. His blue cockerel was RV. His wheaten cockerel won BV and RB. His wheaten pullet was RV.
A special thanks to everyone who participated in the SC district meet, to make it the best one held! Peggy Taylor requested a meet at the Texas State Fair, which will be set for a state meet. We briefly discussed other potential shows for our 2015 district meet, which is yet to be decided. We have had one at Fayetteville, Ark. and one at Sedalia, MO., all the others have been at Shawnee, OK. since I have been director.
